Dr. Voloudakis is currently a Psychiatry resident at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS). He received his BS in Biology, MS in Molecular Basis of Human Disease, MD and PhD from the University of Crete (UoC), in Greece. Prior to devoting his interests to the study and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders, he worked on diverse research projects spanning multiple disciplines such as regulation of gene expression in budding yeast (FORTH, Greece), genetics of autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases (UoC), lung mechanics and inflammation in animal models of ventilator-induced lung injury (UoC), and stochastic hybrid models of DNA replication (ETH Zurich, Switzerland). In collaboration with both the UoC and the laboratory of Dr. Robakis at ISMMS, Dr. Voloudakis conducted his PhD work focusing on the molecular mechanisms of neuronal cell death and endothelial cell dysfunction in Familial Alzheimer’s Disease. For these studies, he was, for two consecutive years, awarded the M. Manassaki Excellence in Graduate Studies Scholarship. Currently working with Dr. Roussos at the Pamela Sklar Division of Psychiatric Genomics at ISMMS, Dr. Voloudakis is investigating potential roles for non-coding variants in the development of neuropsychiatric disorders.
