Dr. Safavi received her MD from Tehran University of Medical Science (Iran), following a PhD in Neuroscience from SUNY Downstate (New York).  Dr. Safavi studied pathogenesis of demyelinating disease in both viral and inflammatory animal models of Multiple Sclerosis for her PhD dissertation.  She then joined Neuroimmunology lab at Thomas Jefferson University (Philadelphia) as a postdoc where she worked on the role of T-cells in immunopathogenesis of autoimmune inflammatory diseases in nervous system.

Dr. Safavi is currently a PGY-4 Neurology Resident at Mount Sinai Hospital, and as a Leon Levy Fellow she will work on the modulatory effects of exercise on immune cells.
