The Foundation has supported Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG) since 2004, playing a vital role in major sustainability and landscape projects. The Shelby White and Leon Levy Water Garden, a small wetland and riparian environment, features “working plants” that filter water and provide habitat and food for wildlife. Along with the pond and stream known as Belle’s Brook, the Water Garden is part of the innovative Water Conservation Project, which filters and recirculates fresh rainwater and groundwater throughout BBG’s 52-acres, reducing water consumption and easing the burden on city storm drains. In addition to substantial capital investments, the Foundation provides ongoing support for the Garden’s operations and programs that connect people to the world of plants.
