The Moynihan Center

The Moynihan Center cultivates future leaders who, in the spirit of former New York Senator Moynihan, are committed to a form of public service that translates visionary ideas into concrete policies through critical dialogue and civil debate.
The Moynihan Center at The City College of New York was founded in 2023 with an anchor grant from the Foundation. It takes inspiration from the celebrated career of Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, a close friend of Leon Levy and Shelby White. In helping to establish the Center, Elizabeth Moynihan, the Senator’s wife and a Founding Trustee of the Foundation, envisioned creating “the Moynihans of the future.”
The Center cultivates leaders who cross the boundaries between critical thinking, public service practice, and popular communication. Through signature fellowship programs and a rich slate of public events, the Center works to ensure that the next generation of public scholars and public servants reflects the diversity of viewpoints and lived experiences represented at City College and beyond.
