Tel Shimron Excavations

Tel Shimron, Israel

The Leon Levy Foundation has provided major support for the Tel Shimron Excavations. Directed by Professors Daniel Master and Mario Martin, Tel Shimron Excavations is the most advanced foreign archaeological expedition in Israel. More than thirty scholars from Wheaton College, Tel Aviv University, Boston College, Brigham Young University and Cairn University, use the latest techniques in archaeological science to uncover the history of the Jezreel Valley from its earliest habitation through modernity.

Located at the southwestern end of the Nazareth range, Tel Shimron and surroundings extend over an area of 195 dunams, representing the largest site in the Jezreel Valley. Tel Shimron is ideally situated to grow our understanding of the relationships between the Jezreel Valley, the Acco Plain, and the Hills of Galilee across the Old Testament and New Testaments eras and later periods.

The core staff of Tel Shimron Excavations grew out of the Leon Levy Expedition to Ashkelon, Harvard University’s long-running excavation at the site of Ashkelon in Israel.
